Measuring Balancer and Hub Patterns

A common issue with selecting used balancers and hub drive assemblies is selecting incompatible patterns.  While most people know that a 4 bolt damper will not work with a 3 bolt pulley system, many do not know that there is more than one 3 bolt pattern.  In order to make sure that you are not confused by the different bolt patterns, we have developed the following diagrams to assist you in identifying the parts you have so you can be sure you are buying parts that will work with your existing ones.

The two diagrams show the two 3 bolt patterns that can be found on many racing parts as well as many OEM engines.  The two patterns are only 1/10" different in size, so it is very difficult for the untrained eye to determine the difference by simply looking at.  We have found that a quick and easy way to determine which is which is to measure the span between two of the bolt holes.  This quick and easy measurement should simplify the identification of your parts.
